At the end of her shift, Janet Peterson noticed a Veteran sitting alone on a bench outside the building. Something about the look in the man's eyes caught Jan's attention. She quickly assessed that he was cognitively impaired and could only tell her his name. She realized he was unable to ambulate and it was unsafe for him to be alone. Jan went inside the ER for help. Though Jan's name does not appear on any of the patient's direct care charting (except as a reference in a Social Workers note), she is this Vet's hero. Because of Janet Peterson's excellent nursing assessment and actions, she made a significant difference in the life of this Veteran. Thank you Janet for the outstanding nursing care you provide our Veterans every day.
