My mother was suddenly taken ill and came to Imperial Point Emergency Room. Unfortunately, in spite of multiple transfusions her condition took a turn for the worst and she ended up in the ICU. From the time she arrived and my sister was called until her last moments my mother and my family was treated with such kindness and respect that I was overwhelmed. As a nurse of thirty-five years and a hospice nurse I know I can be a bit overbearing and controlling but from the moment I walked onto the unit, Janet treated me with respect.
She provided me with information and engaged in a collaborative relationship with me and my mother's physician that truly shows what a patient care team really is. Together we were able to make my mother's last days comfortable and pain free and her death was peaceful. Janet understands the concept of palliative care and patient choice but more than that she truly listened to me and my family as we navigated the difficult waters of making end of life decisions.
Janet was my mother's advocate and made sure she obtained the orders necessary to achieve these goals. As unexpected as my mother's death was, Janet made the experience as good as it possibly could have been.
