I have been Jani Trogdon's instructor for Adult Health in the past and she was always attentive. However, in the collaborative rotation November of 2016, she stood out much more to me. The nursing staff and patients noted her caring attitude and extensive knowledge and application of the true vision of nursing, ensuring safety and promoting health for her patients and their loved ones. Jani was knowledgeable about medications; she researched information about protocols without being prompted. On one occasion, there was a patient who was admitted to the hospital and the staff stated it was because of noncompliance to the point of the patient being dialyzed. After talking to the patient, Jani said there is more to this story. She determined that the wife has diet restrictions as well as the patient. She talked to the patient and the wife and came up with ideas to be able to meet both diet restrictions in a way that was talking to a patient's wife about ways to incorporate renal diet restrictions for the cooking she was doing at home. The unit was out of handouts and materials. She then asked her friend whose patient was resting to help her. Together they researched recipes, and nutrition content of various foods. She and another student involved the patient's wife in the conversation of what possible menus she could implement at home upon discharge. The nurses were so impressed that Jani would personalize the care for the patient and the family preventing further readmissions that likely would continue if someone did not realize what she did in regards to who was doing the cooking and the need to incorporate the family in the nutrition teaching. She truly showed Chamberlain care to the patient and family. She didn't make a big deal about it, was just glad she was able to take care of her patient for the day. There was no task that was menial for her, she was always happy to do things for other patients, always on task, and engaging her patients throughout the rotation. On the last day of the clinical rotation of the Nov 2016 session a nurse stated, "she really should get something besides a good grade for this class, she stands out and makes Chamberlain stand out, bring more like her and her friend"
