My mom felt like she was important, and like Janica was invested in her comfort and improvement.
Janica went above and beyond to care for my mom during her stay in the ICU. She was an advocate for my mom and was very engaged in the process of identifying and addressing the complex issues affecting my mom’s health. Janica is a problem-solver and when she identified problems, or when we or my mom complained of anything she did her best to find a solution.

For example, while my mom was on BIPAP for 24 hours, when complained of thirst. This nurse sought out oral care kits, then swabbed my mom’s mouth several times per shift to alleviate her dry mouth. The relief my mom experienced was obvious, and it contributed to her overall improvement and her ability to communicate with her family. Janica was very observant and worked as the eyes and ears for the doctor.

She noticed changes in my mom’s condition and communicated those material changes to the doctors with her insight, the doctors were able to diagnose a few conditions that can be addressed to improve my mom’s overall quality of life. She showed compassion both to my mom and to our family. My mom felt like she was important, and like Janica was invested in her comfort and improvement.

Our family felt less stress knowing that Janica and the other ICU nurses were watching after our mom and providing excellent care. All the ICU nurses have been exceptional, but Janica was with my mom during a few critical days and her excellent work deserves special recognition.
