Janice is promoting Veteran-centered care
Since starting at the St. Cloud VA, Janice Kadri has been an incredible asset to the CLC by providing holistic care to our Veterans. She revolves her shift around the well-being of every Veteran under her care. She always advocates for Veterans and focuses on Veteran-centered care. The Veterans on the unit trust her and will frequently go to her office throughout the day just to talk with her. Janice never hesitates to socialize with them, always having an open door and a willingness to listen. This willingness is especially crucial for the mental health of Veterans during these hard times of being isolated from friends and family with the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Janice also works hand-in-hand with all levels of the nursing staff on the unit, as well as other disciplines throughout the facility to provide exceptional care for our Veterans. She enjoys attending huddles and building relationships with all of the staff. Staff feel comfortable approaching her with any questions or concerns which has improved communication throughout the unit.
One of the many examples of how Janice continuously shows the ICARE values and promotes patient care is when there was a Veteran who was declining and significantly dehydrated. After attempts by nursing, an IV could not be placed. Even though she hadn't placed one for a few years, Janice was willing to jump in and attempt to place it. She was successful. This prevented additional attempts on this Veteran, which would have led to more discomfort and a delay in his IV fluids. It is evident that she has not forgotten her nursing roots.
Another example of how Janice is promoting Veteran-centered care is when there was a COVID positive case on the unit. She immediately collaborated with management on the unit to ensure safety measures were in place. She also huddled with staff members multiple times to address any questions or concerns that they had. Janice also came in on a Saturday to round on the Veterans to ensure they were all closely monitored by a provider who was familiar with their medical history. Janice completed bedside rounding on every Veteran with great concern for their well-being. She serves as a role model for both her peers and the nursing staff on her assigned unit.
