One nightshift Janice was in charge of caring for a patient who was actively dying of cancer. The patient's pregnant daughter had just arrived from out of state to be with her dying mother. Janice, knowing that the patient may never get to hear or see her future grandchild took it upon herself to find an ultrasound Doppler in the hospital. She then approached the patient's daughter and offered her the opportunity to let her mother listen to the heart beat of her unborn grandchild. The patient and daughter were so overwhelmed with gratitude and there was not a dry eye in the room that night.
