Dr. Neil was the founder of the Pirate Living Learning Village and works tirelessly to ensure the success of undergraduates. Her primary contribution is in the role of lead faculty for N3210 Nurse as Care Provider for many years, providing the strong foundation in nursing knowledge and skills necessary for our students to progress successfully through the program. Her clinical (real-world) examples aid students in recalling critical material for years after they complete her course. As an example of the commitment Dr. Neil has to our students, I witnessed her providing small group support to four undergraduate nursing students who were not successful on the dosage calculation test. They were understandably anxious. She calmed their anxieties, used humor to alleviate their fears and provided several ways for them to improve their dosage calculation skills. Later, those four successfully passed the test and are now registered nurses, precepting the next generation. Dr. Neil role-models the professional nurse by discussing her research in class, demonstrating life-long learning commitment by attending conferences and encouraging the students to participate in professional activities with her (ex. Beta Nu events). I highly recommend Dr. Neil for the DAISY Faculty Award based on her tireless commitment to our students and our profession.
