I appreciated Janice standing up for me
My husband had previously been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He was throwing up a lot of blood and was in so much pain. Janice Nevins asked if he was in pain and he replied "yes, make it stop.” Janice adjusted the morphine. I told the doctor to give my husband no more blood, it was obviously not helping. The doctor asked my husband if that is what he wanted. He said yes. I told the doctor I was his medical power of attorney.
My husband kept repeating "turn it off, turn it off, make it stop." Janice asked if I wanted to go to comfort care. She explained and I said yes. The doctor began to ask my husband if that was what he wanted, Janice interrupted and explained that I had just expressed what I wanted. I appreciated Janice standing up for me. She was kind and direct, but she did not back down. They continued to work as a professional team. We discussed Hospice and if I could take him home to be with family. Janice's shift was over but she stayed to fill out the hospice orders and to contact Hospice. She took care of it all. Janice is the real deal. I am thankful for Ms. Nevins having the confidence and courage to speak up for her patient and his family. She went the extra mile so he could be home surrounded by his loved ones when he passed away.
