She walked and talked with him all the way around the hospital to make sure that he got there safely. She also made sure that he got checked in
Sometimes Jan likes to walk around outside the hospital on her lunch break. On this particular day, she was walking by the Renaissance Pavilion and the Women and Children’s Hospital when a man in a truck stopped her. He said he was looking for the Emergency Department. Instead of just directing him to the entrance and walking away, Jan asked him what was wrong. The man was complaining of a severe headache behind one of his eyes and said he had been having trouble seeing since he passed the other hospital off the highway. He said he decided to stop here because it was getting really bad. Jan offered to get a wheelchair and bring him to the E.D., but he declined. So instead, she walked and talked with him all the way around the hospital to make sure that he got there safely. She also made sure that he got checked in. I’m certain she saved this man’s life that day.
Jan often writes DAISY and Bee nominations to make sure that others get recognized for their extraordinary care. She deserves to be recognized for her willingness to take action by walking with this man to the E.D., making sure that nothing happened to him on his way into the E.D., and assuring he was checked in.
