I was at St. Mary's Hospital following a total left knee replacement. Janie came on to her shift and I was introduced to her. Janie listened avidly as the preceding nurse described my day and the problems I had. Janie told me to call her for any little thing, no matter how inconsequential it may be.
Janie came to give me my evening meds and carefully described each pill and how some of the pills I was taking actually worked better when taken together. After each pill, she asked if I understood and if there were any questions.
Janie came in and made sure I got my face washed and teeth brushed before going to sleep for the night. I felt I might be taking her away from other duties she may have. I did ask her if there was anything she should be doing instead of fussing over me. Janie answered, "You are my patient, you are the reason I am here, I will help you in any way I can. I will make sure that I will do everything in my power to make you comfortable and help you get well."
That was an amazing nurse. She made me feel special, at ease in her presence and taken care of. Janie has a very peaceful character and I just loved her. Thank you for putting her at my bedside.
