I could probably come up with a hundred examples of how Janin goes out of her way to make every child and parent feel like they are a member of her family.
There are so many reasons why Janin is a DAISY Nurse. She goes above and beyond every day for both her patients and the providers she works with. I know many people can say that about their nurses, but it is true of Janin. She is the most kindhearted soul I have ever met. She gives 110% with every patient she encounters. For example, yesterday she was not even working a clinic, she was signing people in clinic up for MyChart, and while in the room with one of our GI patients, she was able to discover that the patient also needed appointments with pediatric surgery (which she got scheduled the same day) and with Endocrine (already scheduled for a later date). This is just one of the extraordinary things that Janin does daily. She has gone out of her way to get a patient scheduled with an ultrasound at Lakeview Hospital.
The most recent example of Janin's dedication and commitment to our patients came a few weeks ago. A member of her church was talking to her about some difficulties she was having with a provider at another facility. The mother had been struggling for several months to find out what was wrong with her daughter. She was having discomfort and cervical swelling. The mother gave her permission to discuss her case with one of the Northshore providers and the doctor was able to see the patient on Friday for a second opinion. The next week the patient had a biopsy and within 2 weeks the patient had a diagnosis. Because of Janin's caring nature and devotion to everyone she encounters, this mother felt she could confide in Janin and from that this patient received the care needed and a diagnosis that could have been lifesaving.
This story is a testament to how thorough Janin is in every interaction with her patients. I could probably come up with a hundred examples of how Janin goes out of her way to make every child and parent feel like they are a member of her family. But if you ask any person at Children's Hospital who has ever worked with Janin, they will all tell you that is just how she is.
A physician had this to say about Janin, "Janin is a fantastic person to work with. She does her job well and is engaged with the patients, caring, and energetic. She is very thorough. I can trust that she has done a good job before I go into the room. Working with her makes my clinic more efficient, and more enjoyable." I can tell you I have never met a nurse more deserving of an award that recognizes patient care more than Janin Pierce. She is a patient advocate, a provider partner, she lives the CHNOLA values, and she goes out of her way to make the Northshore Center the best experience for our patients.
