Janine Isaga, RN

I arrived at Morristown Medical Center to be induced with my first child. I was considered high risk due to my homozygous Factor V Leiden blood clotting disorder, which required me to be on blood thinners throughout my pregnancy. Naturally, my husband and I were anxious about the induction process and the potential complications.

Upon admission, I was cared for overnight by Janine. From the very beginning, she was attentive, compassionate, and proactive. She checked on me frequently, ensured both my husband and I were comfortable, and clearly explained every step of the process so we always knew what to expect. She lightened the mood with humor when we needed it most, helping to ease our nerves during such an overwhelming time.

When I had a poor reaction to the Cytotec medication, Janine remained calm and acted quickly to stabilize my contractions before they could impact my baby. She reassured me, kept me informed, and made me feel safe. After the Foley balloon was inserted, she did everything she could to keep me comfortable and continued to check on me consistently throughout the night.

I labored into the next day and remained stalled at 4 centimeters for quite some time. While my care during the day was adequate, there were long stretches where we felt alone and uncertain. Janine had mentioned that she would be returning for another shift, and I specifically requested her to come back to care for me.

The moment she returned, her presence immediately made a difference. She quickly got to work, cleaning me up from earlier bleeding, changing my gown and sheets, and helping me reposition to encourage dilation. She came back every 20 to 30 minutes to adjust my positioning, monitor my progress, and ensure I was as comfortable as possible. Her attentiveness and dedication were extraordinary.

Within five hours, I went from 4 centimeters to fully dilated and ready to push. Throughout labor and delivery, Janine continuously encouraged both me and my husband. Her calm demeanor, confidence, and compassion gave us strength. Thanks to her incredible care, we welcomed our beautiful baby girl into the world without a single real complication.

What neither Janine nor I knew at the time was that my grandfather was soon to be unexpectedly admitted to the Morristown hospital while I was there. He passed away the day after I delivered my daughter. In the midst of what would become both one of the most beautiful and most heartbreaking moments of my life, I truly believe God placed Janine in my path. She was a guiding light during a time I needed one most, even before I knew just how much I would need that strength.

Her presence was deeply calming, and her compassion will stay with me forever. I will be eternally grateful for the care she provided and for the role she played in bringing my daughter safely into this world. Janine is the embodiment of what the DAISY Award represents, and I cannot think of anyone more deserving.
