I have an 8 year old male patient who has had a long history of urinary incontinence and hydronephrosis. After over a year of trying conservative treatments, we needed to teach him and his mother how to do intermittent self catheterization. They had a lot of anxiety about this, but they agreed to learn and try to do it. I was sure they would give up, but Janine called them every day for the next week to see if they had questions. She identified some of the problems they were having and was able to correct them early on. She would speak directly to the boy telling him how proud she was of him, how brave he was and how well he was doing. I am convinced that, if it was not for her encouragement – going above and beyond what was expected - they would have given up. Now he is dry and his kidneys are improving –thanks to Janine!
