The test came back positive; if not for Jannelle insisting and advocating for my godfather, he wouldn't have gotten the treatment, he would have been discharged to rehab, and more people would have been exposed.
My godfather was admitted; he does not have any family, and I am the only next of kin. Jannelle was his nurse and made me not worry as much because I knew she was taking care of him, Jannelle is a "newer" nurse but has all the right reasons for being one. She cares deeply for the patients, does what is right, and advocates for them.

One day, my godfather went for a test and came back "not his usual self". I made his morning nurse aware but she said he's ok. I was so relieved to see Jannelle coming in at night and being his nurse. She came and spoke to him and even before I was able to tell her, she already knew something was not right. Jannelle asked me if my godfather had been like that the whole day and I said when he got back from the test. She took his temperature rectally and saw he had a fever of 102. She called the doctor to ask for a COVID test, but the doctor apparently said it was not needed. She kept checking on him and also checked his lab tests. When she saw that the tests were ok and there was no change in his behavior, Jannelle called the doctor again and gave him an update and again asked for an order for COVID-19, which the doctor gave this time. The test came back positive; if not for Jannelle insisting and advocating for my godfather, he wouldn't have gotten the treatment, he would have been discharged to rehab, and more people would have been exposed. Jannelle may be new, but she definitely knows her stuff and cares for her patients.

I also heard her talking to a family member of my godfather's roommate, asking for the dose of his medication, which is not what he takes at home. She provided them with information and called the doctor who ordered it which apparently the patient had not seen yet. The doctor called when Jannelle was in the room, and I could hear him raising his voice at her. Jannelle very professionally went out of the room, and I heard her explaining the patient and family's concerns and questions. She still continues to be her patient's voice. Even if the doctor is getting upset with her, she continues to do what is right for her patient. I hope all nurses are like Jannelle. You're lucky to have her in your hospital!
