I admitted my patient, S, per an induction of labor. Her baby was diagnosed with Trisomy L8 and not expected to survive long after delivery. Jackie Thaw was her nurse and bestowed much compassion and care to help S through a difficult time.
Jackie presented a beautiful handmade baby quilt to S, and explained that her sister likes to make quilts and asked Jackie to give it to any patient she felt deserving. When S received the quilt she thanked Jackie but protested that her baby was likely going to die and the quilt would better be utilized with another expectant mom. Jackie said she wanted her to have it and if her baby does not survive she can use it for her next pregnancy.
S was moved and much comforted by this beautiful gesture.
