Today, I witnessed a nurse holding the hand of a patient as he was passing away. The patient's wife had dementia and he did not want her present. This nurse was not assigned to the patient, however, he learned of the need and took it upon himself to help. This simple act made all of the difference for this patient as he left this world. Thank you Jared Caster for your compassion, integrity, and grace in these final moments of this patient's life. You are truly a living example of what The DAISY Award strives to honor.
