I have recently had the honor of standing beside a dear friend's family as they navigate an incredibly difficult cancer journey. Her husband, 54, is a strong, selfless man who has spent his life giving to his family and community, rarely asking for anything in return. Over the past month, he has been hospitalized almost continuously at different hospitals throughout Minnesota, enduring tremendous pain, complications, and uncertainty. During a recent stay on the 5th floor at Methodist, he was fortunate to have Jared as his nurse. As a support person who has witnessed the emotional and physical toll this journey has taken on both the patient and his family, I can confidently say that Jared exemplifies the very best of nursing.

What made Jared exceptional was his ability to see beyond the diagnosis and truly see the person. He connected with my friend's husband in many ways, sharing a laugh about how good his gray hair looked, comparing tattoos, and offering genuine encouragement. In moments that could have been defined by illness and suffering, Jared brought humanity, dignity, and hope. Jared also recognized that caring for the patient meant caring for the family. He took time to support the patient's wife, reminding her to eat, even bringing in his own Snickers bar, encouraging her to take a moment to breathe, and acknowledging the tremendous burden she was carrying. His kindness and compassion helped her feel seen and cared for during the most difficult period of her life to date.

What impressed me most was Jared's ability to anticipate questions and concerns. He often initiated conversations about worries that the family had not yet voiced, providing reassurance, education, and emotional support. His clinical expertise inspired confidence, while his compassion brought comfort and peace during an uncertain time. Jared demonstrated the true meaning of holistic, patient- and family-centered care. He cared not only for his patient's medical needs but also for the emotional well-being of everyone around him. His ability to combine exceptional nursing care with authentic human connection made a profound difference in the lives of this patient and his family. For these reasons, I nominate Jared for the DAISY Award.

Thank you, Jared, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
