Jasmin Salinas is a truly extraordinary Nurse, with the knowledge, compassion and insight to see beyond the norm, and to anticipate needs and complications in care that the patient herself may be unaware of.
I have a long and complex medical history, including radical cancer treatment when I was very young that has left me with a rare and weakened head and neck area. While much of what I said in the first 24 hours after surgery was adrenaline-fueled chatter, Jasmin Salinas picked out critical information within my history that meant standard procedures would not always apply, no matter how good I may seem, and she tirelessly advocated for me whenever necessary. At the same time, she recognized that I am an independent soul who sometimes needed more than I knew to ask, and she had the understanding and insight to provide comfort and reassurance to me and to my family, and when it was truly safe, to give me room to recover and grow. I saw and heard how her warm good humor weaves through her relations with patients, our families, and with other hospital staff and colleagues. Jasmin Salinas exemplifies what it means to be an effective and compassionate Nurse, and if anyone deserves a DAISY Award, she does.
