Jasmine developed a connection with the patient through taking the time to listen even if it meant staying late.
Jasmine is a great nurse. There are so many great examples of how she meets the DAISY criteria daily. She had a situation recently in which she really went above and beyond. The patient was a gentleman who was in hospital for a possible new stroke. Jasmine made a connection with him through joking about the little things such as getting vital signs every four hours even if he is sleeping. During his stay the patient developed an abnormal heart rhythm at the beginning of the shift. Jasmine spoke with the care team and the plan was to start the patient on a drip and transfer him to a higher level of care. There was a delay in transferring the patient and she stayed late to call report to the ICU staff for night shift.
When she went to inform the patient on where he was transferring to and why, the patient became very upset and refused the drip, the transfer, and was threatening to leave AMA. Jasmine took the time to hear the patient's concerns and made the patient feel like he had a voice in his care. Upon revaluation of the patient Jasmine saw that the patient was no longer having the abnormal heart rhythm and notified the cardiologist to see if patient still required the drip. The transfer order was d/c and the need for drip no longer needed. The patient was amiable to stay and allow the staff to monitor him further. Jasmine developed a connection with the patient through taking the time to listen even if it meant staying late. Jasmine the kind of nurse we all should aspire to be like. She makes nursing a little sweeter on those rough days.
