She eventually ended up sitting with this resident in a commons area, singing Jingle Bells with the resident and other students.
Jasmine was observed in her first clinical experiences in a long-term care facility. Jasmine is a cheerleader for her fellow nursing students and a caring advocate for the residents she cared for in the long-term care facility. She was always the first to volunteer to help the staff and her fellow students with any task necessary.

On our last clinical day, Jasmine was helping to keep a confused resident who was a high fall risk occupied by pushing her around the facility in her wheelchair so the staff could tend to other residents' needs. She eventually ended up sitting with this resident in a commons area, singing Jingle Bells with the resident and other students.

While the resident couldn't convey her gratitude, the smile on her face said it all. I witnessed Jasmine going room to room saying goodbye to the residents she had cared for this semester, and many of them asked her for a hug and told her they would miss her. This first clinical rotation isn't always the most exciting one for students, but they get the opportunity to really connect with the geriatric population and hopefully see that they have made a difference.
