Jasna Lukose, RN

I am honored to nominate Jasna Lukose, RN, for the DAISY Award for her exceptional compassion, patient advocacy, and commitment to patient safety. Jasna recently cared for an elderly gentleman who was determined to leave the hospital despite not being ready to be on his feet and still needing ongoing medical treatment. Rather than simply accepting his decision, she took the time to sit with him, listen to his concerns, and understand what was causing his anxiety. With patience, empathy, and genuine compassion, Jasna helped him feel heard and respected. Her calm, caring approach earned his trust, and he ultimately agreed to stay and receive the treatment he needed. Her actions likely prevented harm and demonstrated the profound difference a compassionate nurse can make. Jasna's commitment to excellence extends beyond the bedside. After receiving a patient transfer from the ICU, she carefully reviewed the patient's chart and noticed that a respiratory panel collected several days earlier had resulted positive for rhinovirus. Recognizing that appropriate isolation precautions had not yet been initiated, she immediately implemented droplet precautions and notified leadership. Her vigilance protected patients, visitors, and staff while demonstrating outstanding accountability and attention to detail.
