February 2026 Honoree
Jason Bates, RN
In our rural hospital, Jason Bates, RN, consistently goes above and beyond for his patients and team. One evening, a patient was admitted to SSSU after an unexpected surgical complication. The patient was anxious and alone, but Jason immediately stepped in with calm reassurance. He explained every step of care clearly and stayed at the bedside to ease the patient’s fears.
Jason’s clinical judgment was exceptional—he anticipated changes and worked closely with the surgical team to prevent further complications. What stood out most was his compassion. He treated the patient like family, restoring dignity and hope in a vulnerable moment.
Jason embodies the spirit of nursing: skilled, compassionate, and dedicated. His actions didn’t just improve a patient’s outcome—they reminded us all why nursing is a calling.
