I have the pleasure of working with a fantastic group of SBLHS Nurses, Care Partners, Clerical, and Support Staff. One of those individuals is Jason Duhamel. While he was the charge nurse for the day shift, he received a critically ill patient. Jason was caring, compassionate, and very calm as the patient's health declined rapidly.
Jason remained in the patient's room attending to this patient a majority of the evening. This patient had a history of abuse and neglect, and Jason stayed by this patient's side giving them the support they needed. Jason made sure they felt important and gave them the assurance that he was there for them and that he cared. Jason was very attentive to this patient as well as providing care for the other patients on the floor.
When the patient coded, Jason used his resources, was quick to respond, and remained in control of the situation. Although the situation did not have the outcome we would have hoped for, Jason demonstrated compassionate care and great advocacy to his patient. This patient could not have had a more qualified and empathetic nurse to care for them at the end of their life.
This is just one example of how Jason Duhamel cares for each of his patients. While he is not at work, he is dedicating time to the Haven Homeless Shelter as the kitchen director working selflessly for the betterment of the community.
