Even though it was an intense and stressful situation it was made a thousand times better by Jason's compassion for my son. I felt like my son was seen, heard and truly cared for today.
My 11-year-old son came in to have bloodwork and vaccines done under sedation recently. He is on the autism spectrum and has severe needle phobia which is why sedation is required. My son, M, was extremely terrified when it came time to go to the room. Jason Walker, RN, stepped in and distracted M by asking him about Pokémon and got him to talk about his interests. I was touched by the compassion and genuine kindness that Jason showed to my son. My son was difficult to deal with until he was sedated, but Jason was there with M the entire time, talking to him, soothing him, and keeping a positive attitude. Even though it was an intense and stressful situation it was made a thousand times better by Jason's compassion for my son. I felt like my son was seen, heard and truly cared for today. You can tell when someone genuinely cares. After the visit was done, Jason congratulated my son on his bravery and told him how proud he was of him. My son told me after we left that Jason was the nicest and best nurse he had ever met. I am nominating Jason Walker for a DAISY Award because he made such an impact on my family, and I will never forget the kindness and compassion he showed to us.
