Thanks to Jason, my memory of that day – though painful - also includes profound gratitude. His kindness and skill transformed a traumatic experience into one where I felt cared for as a whole person.
I'm writing to recognize Nurse Jason =because of the extraordinary care, compassion, and humanity he showed me during one of the most devastating days of my life. In September, I visited the emergency room twice because I was experiencing a miscarriage. What could have been an unbearable, frightening day became one where I felt truly seen, supported, and cared for - and that was entirely without Jason.
When I arrived during my first visit, I was overwhelmed with fear and uncertainty. Jason took the time to explain every step with clarity and patience, never rushing me or making me feel like “just another patient”. His voice was calm, his presence grounding. He treated me with such deep respect that I felt safe in a moment where everything inside me felt like it was falling apart.
Later that day, when I had to return to the ER, I was mentally drained and physically exhausted. To my surprise and relief, Jason was there again. He remembered me - not just my name, but the details of my situation, how scared I had been, and the grief I was trying to hold together. Jason didn't just provide medical care; he provided a compassionate human connection. He spoke gently, validated my emotions, and constantly checked to make sure I was not only physically stable but emotionally supported.
What stood out most was how he balanced professionalism with genuine empathy. He never minimized my feelings or treated my loss as a routine event. Instead, he honored it. He honored me. In a sterile, busy emergency room, he created a space that felt safe, personal, and dignified. Miscarriage is something that leaves an imprint on the heart, and the way a patient is cared for in those moments can stay with them forever.
Thanks to Jason, my memory of that day – though painful - also includes profound gratitude. His kindness and skill transformed a traumatic experience into one where I felt cared for as a whole person. Nurse Jason is the embodiment of what the DAISY award stands for. His compassion made all the difference in my darkest moment, and I will never forget the comfort and strength he offered me.
