Javi had a genuine, vested interest in me as a person and as his patient. He was thinking days ahead in terms of treatment and transitioning out of the ICU. Even when he was no longer assigned as my nurse, he visited to see how I was doing and encouraged me as I was leaving for the Shepherd Center.

I would like to nominate Javier for a DAISY Award because he truly went above and beyond while caring for my mom during one of the hardest and scariest times of our lives. My mom was on the med-surg ICU floor before and after brain surgery, and from the moment he walked into the room, he treated her with so much kindness, compassion, patience, and respect. He was an incredible nurse medically, but he also cared deeply about my mom as a whole person and about our entire family. He always took the time to explain things, answer every question, calm fears, and make sure we understood what was happening. No matter how busy he was, he never made us feel rushed or unimportant. He showed genuine compassion in every interaction and made such a difficult situation feel a little less overwhelming. The comfort, reassurance, and support he gave our family mean more than words can explain. Nurses like him are truly special and are exactly why the DAISY Award exists. We will never forget the care he gave my mom and the impact he had on all of us during such a critical time in her life. He absolutely deserves recognition for the amazing nurse and person he is.
