I wanted to share my experience as a patient in the Pekin ER. I came in convinced I was having a panic attack (self-diagnosed), and the staff wasted no time getting me back for an emergent assessment. As an ER nurse myself, I fully admit I was not the ideal patient, mostly because I was genuinely terrified and certain I was experiencing impending doom. Dramatic? Absolutely. Accurate representation of how I felt? Unfortunately, yes. The ER team and physician did a fantastic job grounding me, reassuring me that I was safe, and involving me in my plan of care. I especially want to nominate my nurse, Jax, for a DAISY Award. He was incredible. He tolerated my spiraling with grace, matched my sarcasm and humor (my love language), and navigated my back-and-forth about labs and medications with impressive patience. He helped me untangle my thoughts and fears and guided me toward the decisions that ultimately brought me back to my normal, slightly less chaotic self. If I or any member of my family ever end up in the Pekin ER again, I’d be grateful to have Jax as our nurse, along with the rest of the team who talked me off the proverbial ledge that night. Thank you all so much for the exceptional care!

Thank you, Jax, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
