I can honestly say his presence, his care, his compassion, and his ability to make everyone feel as if you were his only priority were just what we needed in those first 48 hours after this tragic event.
On Monday my mom was admitted to the CICU after having a completed left sided MCA Stroke that left her with right sided hemiparesis, and severe aphasia. I was met by RN Jay Kim, who is the very embodiment of a nurse. The most caring, compassionate, kind, and all-around wonderful nurse I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and having my mother receive care from. He immediately was attentive and went way above and beyond in every aspect. Jay spoke directly to my mom and explained to both her and myself everything that he was doing and why. Jay was my mom’s nurse for the first two days of her admission to the hospital and CICU. I can honestly say his presence, his care, his compassion, and his ability to make everyone feel as if you were his only priority were just what we needed in those first 48 hours after this tragic event. But Jay didn’t stop there. Although we did not have him again as the primary RN, he came to visit my mom and me and checked in separately on each member of my family that he had met in those first days. He went so far as to stop by one night at about 8:30 pm an hour and a half after his long 12-hour day shift had ended. He had a long day and was late getting out, but he stopped to check on us as he had just found out my mom had been transferred back into the CICU. When my mom left the CICU for the 3rd and final time on her 44-day hospital stay, Jay jogged down the hall to catch her as transport was wheeling her out of the unit so he could say goodbye! He truly was an angel when we needed him most.
