September 2015 Honoree
jay ryker, RN
Mr. G was admitted from OSH 06/24/15. He and his brother were in a MVC. His brother had minor injuries and was discharged from OSH. When Jay went out to the waiting area to escort him into SICU for visitation he found Mr. J covered in dried blood. Jay came back into the SICU to get supplies then Jay & John took him to the SICU waiting room and helped him shower. They went to linen to get him a clean pair of scrubs and bought him underwear from the giftshop because he had soiled his. Jay and John assisted him to a wheelchair and brought him into the SICU for visitation. Mr. J in an elderly man and the only family he has is his brother, Mr. G. Jay & John worked with the social worker to find his neighbor, a friend, to pick him up from UMMC and take him home. His neighbor made arrangements for church members to help care for Mr. J at home. Jay and John went above and beyond for this family member. He is a very compassionate nurse and he is training John Cobb (SNE) to follow suit. We are lucky to have Nurse Ryker part of our team in the SICU!
Thank you, Jay, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
