I am writing to express my sincere gratitude and to formally nominate Midwife Jaya Mohrland for the prestigious DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses and Midwives at Tasmanian Health Service – North. My partner and I welcomed our baby in December at the Queen Victoria Maternity Unit, Launceston General Hospital.

Despite this being a busy holiday period, the level of care we received from Jaya was exceptional and far exceeded our expectations. From the moment she took over our care, Jaya demonstrated an extraordinary level of kindness, compassion, and professionalism. She was calm, attentive, and reassuring throughout the entire birthing process. Her clinical skills were outstanding, but what truly set her apart was her genuine empathy and ability to make us feel safe, heard, and supported during one of the most significant and vulnerable moments of our lives.

At a time when my partner and I were anxious and confused about the birthing process, Jaya was a reassuring anchor who ensured that fear and uncertainty never overtook us. Jaya communicated clearly and confidently, explained each step with patience, and ensured both physical and emotional comfort were always prioritised. Her compassionate presence gave us immense confidence during delivery. Even under pressure, her care never felt rushed or impersonal; it was thoughtful, respectful, and deeply human.

We firmly believe that Jaya Mohrland embodies the very essence of the DAISY Award. Her dedication, compassion, and exceptional standard of care have had a profound impact on our experience and will remain with us for a lifetime. We are incredibly grateful to have received such extraordinary care and strongly recommend Jaya Mohrland for this well-deserved recognition.
