Instead of simply counting the tanks, he went the extra mile to assess the volume of O2 in each tank, revealing that 2 out of 3 "new" tanks were only at 1/2 tank to less than full.
Jaymes exhibits excellence in his work, particularly in his care for veterans and the environment, as evidenced by his attention to detail & thoroughness in his role as Charge RN. During his AM shift recently, he diligently conducted safety sweeps, including checking the O2 tank inventory on the unit. Instead of simply counting the tanks, he went the extra mile to assess the volume of O2 in each tank, revealing that 2 out of 3 "new" tanks were only at 1/2 tank to less than full. Only one was completely full as it should have been. This discrepancy was promptly reported during the facility huddle, resulting in an immediate replacement of a new delivery of 12 bottles of O2. Due to Jaymes' astute observations & sensitivity to operations, I reviewed the gauges of all 12 of the newly delivered bottles of O2 and with the deliveryman. Together, we found that 6 of the 12 bottles were indeed at half tank to less than full. The deliveryman stated he would report the issue to his management team and I also reported it to nursing leadership for follow up to ensure that all areas monitored their O2 tank levels to ensure they were clean, full tanks of oxygen ready to be safely used by our valued patients. Due to Jaymes' attention to detail, our unit as a whole is more cognizant of checking the gauges for safety, and this awareness will lead to positive patient outcomes for all our veteran patients!
