Jazmyn Lopez Gonzalez

Jazmyn Gonzalez is incredibly caring, motivated, intelligent, and a great leader. Jazmyn is a natural leader and holds positions in both the MSOE Nursing Honor Society and Global Brigades. Jazmyn has gone on international Global Brigades trips every year while attending MSOE to provide care to those who are underserved in Central America.

This spring, Jazmyn successfully led an international trip to Panama with 25 members on the Global Brigades Medical team. Jazmyn was very organized, which facilitated an incredible experience providing health care services to over 400 members of the Membrillo and La Venta communities in Panama. While on the trip, she organized the flow of the clinic, facilitating stations for client intake, triage, doctor consult, dental station, physiotherapy, pharmacy, and Charla, where community members learned about the importance of dental hygiene. This is where I saw Jazmyn stand out and shine. She carefully considered how to arrange all 25 participants into rotations that would best serve the community members during the brigade as well as her team. She was all hands-on deck as she rotated from station to station to check on everyone to make sure there were no questions, they were hydrated, they took breaks, and asked if there was anything else she could do to help.

I saw countless children and adults smile as she stepped up to help them in the Charla station or answered their questions. The hard work and dedication to successfully pull off an international trip that is student-led is beyond impressive. With all of this leadership experience under her belt, she will seamlessly transition into her role as a new graduate nurse.
