Jean Beth Williams, BSN, RN
Beth is a tremendous asset to the Emergency Department and Dayton Children's Hospital. Her knowledge and expertise stands out as a leader in the department, and an excellent choice to educate new nurses. Two days in a row, Beth has had to initiate care of emergent, unresponsive patients in the parking circle. She demonstrated safety by making sure the scene was clear for our staff to begin working on the patients. She demonstrated collaboration by calling for public safety and other ED staff to assist in helping with these patients. She took ownership as a care expert for these patients, as she quickly identified the needs of each patient and quickly acted within her scope and hospital policy to provide quality, life-saving care. On the second day, Beth had been floated to another unit and was waiting to help a discharge into their car when she saw an adult calling for help for another adult. She snapped into action calling for help from the ED and initiated compressions on the man who would become our patient. I feel her quick thinking and initiation of compressions saved this patient's life and functionality post-cardiac arrest. It is an honor to work with her.
