I was diagnosed with AML Leukemia in June of 2011. It was devastating. I had just turned 20 two months earlier. I was in complete shock. I met Jean when I started my chemotherapy. She explained everything about the chemotherapy to me. I had no idea that I was in such bad shape. Jean was there for me through the induction phase and every other round of chemotherapy. She has been with me through this entire nightmare. This is my 5th round of chemotherapy. Jean has always made it a point to be my nurse if at all possible. She gave me my very first round of chemotherapy and I have cared a great deal about her ever since. Jean was there for me when things went downhill. During my second round of chemotherapy, I had to have lung surgery. The doctors said that there was a possibility that I would not make it. It was an extremely painful recovery, but Jean was there to see me through it. She cried with me when I was inconsolable. I don’t know how I could have gotten to where I am today without her amazing care and support. Jean has gone above and beyond her normal duties as an RN. She took the time to get to know me as a person, and opened up to each other. Each time I am admitted to the hospital, my stay is usually around 27 days. I pretty much move in. Jean always brings decorations depending on what holiday is coming up. She cares for me as if I were one of her own children. Jean has made a great impact on my life, and I cannot express how much she means to me. I will forever be thankful that she came into my life, even though it was under dire circumstances. Jean deserves this award and so much more!
