My wife came in for a biopsy procedure in Radiology. The entire team from the CT5 technician to the physician served her as their neighbor with the highest levels of compassion and excellence. However, one Nurse took the time to take the experience from good to great. There are books written about how to do that, and Jean Larson must have read every one of them because she helped to evaporate the anxiety and nerves, as well as the "general sour mood" that goes with being in a hospital for a procedure. Her effervescent personality, positive attitude, sincerity, and willingness to admit if there was something she didn't know, but going to find the person who did, and get the answer for my wife, made the visit as perfect as possible. Everything from introducing herself to my wife and myself (the nervous family member) to making sure the curtain was closed for the best privacy that could be provided, was done effortlessly, and appreciated.
After the procedure, she even made sure that since my wife had been fasting since the previous day, that she provided a snack and beverage, to pass the time and be a good host, while we were at the hospital awaiting discharge.
I really appreciate that the entire experience from checking in with Radiology, to the wheelchair ride to the front door, was performed in a pleasant and comforting manner that set my wife's nervousness regarding "ack! it's not Cancer... is it?" response at ease and help us move through this trail.
