Since May 6, Jean has worked 60 hours every week as a charge nurse- to ensure our unit runs smoothly for our patients, physicians, and our agency staff. Physicians have come to give her a hug for being here. One of our bariatric patients bought her a name badge and a Tervis cup from the gift shop and this patient cannot easily afford to do that. She told Jean this was for taking excellent care of her while she was here. Jean has received flowers from patients during this difficult time as well.
I have tried to get her to take time off from her 60-hour work weeks, but she replies with "our patients need me".
