Mrs. Avery has worked tirelessly to promote cultural and diversity understanding in the College of Nursing at East Carolina University. She has welcomed staff and students making her work highly inclusive and collaborative. Mrs. Avery is sincerely committed to the campaign of improving awareness, tolerance and acceptance of all people. Her work has improved the education about cultural diversity for faculty, staff and students. Mrs. Avery exemplifies holistic nursing practice and is a role model for inclusion. She has served as co-chair of the diversity council and with the help of her committee has planned and implemented Diversity Day. She is always willing to work with our students and serves as an inspiration for our students in many ways, but her efforts in the area of diversity stands out. This effort has brought many activities to the campus. The most recent book club effort has been outstanding. She has worked many hours to encourage both faculty and students to participate in this valuable experience to increase awareness about diversity in health care.
