Jeanette came on to her shift right after my family was told my grandmother had a couple of days at most to live. It was her first shift with our family and by the end of it, she was calling everyone by name. She addressed my grandmother first when entering the room even when she wasn't super responsive. She went above and beyond her job description on several occasions from explaining what would come during end of life, to scavenging the unit to find blankets and pillows for all of the family who stayed the night. She was always just a call away and responded every time with a smile.
While getting devastating news about a loved one is never easy, she treated everyone she interacted with, with grace and dignity and made us feel like we were the only ones that mattered during her shift. As a fellow nurse, I know just how difficult this can be with a full assignment. Her caring spirit and supportive presence were a true blessing to our family.
