She said she was at my home with a bag of goodies. "The wound care supplies." It was like the groceries just arrived. I was so happy. She was pretty, smiling, and full of energy. When I asked her how she got here, she stated she walked. Walked! That was about 20 blocks!!
I want to give a special thank you to the RN Care Manager- Ms. Jeanni Johnson, who was the RN who called me once I got home. I was discharged home from the hospital with home care services for wound care and did not receive any supplies when I left the hospital. And when the home care nurse came to my home, she did not have any supplies either. I have wounds on my arms and legs. How can you do wound care without any supplies? The day Ms. Johnson called, I was really bummed out. Ms. Johnson attentively listened to my concerns and apologized for anything that I was not happy with. While I raved on and on. She was cool, calm, and collected. She did not interrupt me, or try to cut me off. She just allowed me to vent and listen. When I was all finished. She explained my options for approaching or handling the situation, which I was not happy with. I decided not to focus on the negative. She was able to put a smile on my face by telling me how important I was and how she wanted to provide me with the best customer service. She asked me many questions regarding my care and wanted to know If I even understood my care and my medication. Which I did. She was concerned about me having a doctor and staying current with my health. I have never had anyone call me after I was home that was concerned; she was wonderful. When she asked wound, I told her I didn’t have any supplies. She told me not to worry, she would get me the supplies before she went home. She asked if there was anyone who could meet her at the hospital to pick up the wound care supplies, and I told her NO. It is just me and my son (who is intellectually challenged). I was very tired, as I had just come home from outside. She said not to worry, she would bring it to my house. I was in shock, as I know I did not live close. I was not sure if she would come. But sure enough. I received a telephone call, and it was Ms. Johnson. She said she was at my home with a bag of goodies. "The wound care supplies." It was like the groceries just arrived. I was so happy. She was pretty, smiling, and full of energy. When I asked her how she got here, she stated she walked. Walked! That was about 20 blocks!! However, in her calm, cool spirit, she brushed it off by saying she needed the exercise, with a laugh and a great big smile. But I know all too well that it was GOD who sent her to me. I know she probably had to run around to get those supplies. I was ever so grateful. She even told me to return to the ED if I had any issues or problems. That’s why she is a true DAISY Nurse.
