The beauty of being a healthcare giver is the fact that we will all eventually have the opportunity to find ourselves on the other end of the stethoscope. Although I am a nurse and under "ordinary" circumstances, I could explain iron deficiency anemia in my sleep. But when the diagnosis becomes a part of your personal story, I am always amazed at how much unintentional ignorance one has to what's actually happening. It's like the team over in the infusion suite just "got it." How did they know I needed them to explain what the warm compress on my arm was for? And how did they know I was cold before offering a warm blanket? They just "got it." From start to finish, the experience they created for me during the 2 weeks I had to visit them was seamless, almost like a well-orchestrated symphony. Each and every nurse and technician from registration to discharge greeted me with a warm, friendly smile every visit, whether they were actually assigned to be a part of my care team or not. When I read the categories in the nomination form for the DAISY Team Award, it felt as though the Barnes family met this team and then wrote the nomination form. Watching this teamwork was nothing short of amazing.

It was like a well-orchestrated symphony. Everyone had responsibility for their own work, but the sum of the whole created such a beautiful experience for the patient. The opportunity to watch this from the patient's vantage point was an extraordinary opportunity. The patients in their care sometimes face the most challenging battles of their lives, so to have this team work so seamlessly together really makes patients feel "safe" in their care, and to have such warm and compassionate interactions with the staff really creates a superior patient experience. I knew after my second treatment; this team deserved recognition. Kudos to Megan Brown for leading such an awesome team.
