The grandmother shared with me the next day that he had been in and out of her grandson's room, ensuring each family member felt safe, heard, and supported.
Jeff is always an exceptional nurse. He is always at the top of his game regarding clinical knowledge and emotional support. Today, I would like to recognize Jeff for being so overwhelmingly supportive that it moved a grandmother to tears. A patient in the PICU was very ill and growing worse by the moment. Jeff, who was on the IPU in his own patient assignment, took the time to step out back and make sure the nurses all felt supported, but also continuously checked in on the family.

The grandmother shared with me the next day that he had been in and out of her grandson's room, ensuring each family member felt safe, heard, and supported. Specifically, she mentioned Jeff stepping out of the room with the patient's parents and requesting the hospital chaplain to come by. While waiting for the chaplain, Jeff offered to pray with the family. He waited with the family in the atrium while they met with the chaplain and continued to check in with them throughout his shift. Before he left for the day, he checked in again when Grandma said the parents asked for him to pray over their son with them again, which, of course, he did. Grandma was so moved she could not hold back her tears as she shared the story with me. Jeff has a heart of gold and is a wealth of knowledge, and it was an honor to receive this story from a family member and to be able to nominate him for this award by sharing it.
