She often picked up on my pain levels increasing at the same time as I started to and eased me through the process of accepting pain medication as needed while being in recovery.
I was admitted to Fairview Ridges following some intense abdominal pain/cardiac event.  I was admitted for six days, and the last few days I spent with Jena as my nurse made my stay incredible.

Not only was she consistently encouraging me to be honest with my pain levels and not "push through the pain" (something that I RARELY encounter as a recovering alcoholic, even at almost five years of sobriety), she covered the pros and cons of all the medication/treatment options I had, and provided reassurance that it is okay to ask for what I needed. She often picked up on my pain levels increasing at the same time as I started to and eased me through the process of accepting pain medication as needed while being in recovery.

She also sat and talked with me about random subjects when my anxiety was high and provided much-needed reassurance that this surgery (gallbladder removal) could have a significant positive impact on me. When she checked on me after surgery, the joy she expressed seeing I had finished an ENTIRE full meal for the first time in, honestly, years was unable to be faked, and it was extremely encouraging as a fellow healthcare worker to see her passion come through in so many wonderful ways.
