This journey is new to our family. It is scary and overwhelming for both the patient and their families. Jenna was my husband's night nurse after his Wipple surgery. I am sure that she could tell immediately that I was very protective of him. It's hard to not be, he is my world, my best friend and he depends on me to love him and know him like no one else. Jenna smiled and picked up with him immediately, there was a feeling of comfort with her. She never doubted that he was in pain when he asked for pain medicine. Jenna was very caring to figure out which medication combination worked for him and she scheduled it so that he could rest and was out of pain. She took time to talk and listen to him and that made us smile. Smiling and feeling emotionally safe are important in this process. Jenna always came in as her shift was over to check on us and tell us goodbye. Those little extra things that she would do makes a huge difference. I know that sometimes when nurses do this every day that this pain is normal; they sometimes forget that to this patient and caregiver, their life has just been turned upside down. The caregiver knows this patient like no one else.

When he was so sick, she cared and took the time to figure out what he needed and what worked for him, Both nights with Jenna as his nurse were the calmest he was. So thank you Jenna for taking the extra time to figure out what worked and for caring, You were our angel here, you were our peace and comfort. We wish you the very best in all you try to do.
