Not only did she provide emotional support throughout this entire time, but she also went above and beyond by helping make sure their other children were looked after when they arrived with her husband.
As an emergency department nurse, it isn't uncommon to encounter people on what is likely one of the worst days of their lives. For one 32-year-old female patient, that was just the case. Jenna is not just a skilled ED nurse but also certified and highly knowledgeable in labor and delivery, as well as OB. In the case of this heartbreaking event, she was exactly the nurse who needed to be by her side. From the moment Jenna entered the patient's room, she exuded a reassuring presence for both the patient and the family member. She showed such compassion while assessing and then explaining what was going on and what to expect. Jenna was able to take such a tragic diagnosis and deliver it with care, compassion, and empathy. While this situation was already an emotional and devastating time for the patient, events also transpired that went against her wishes for her care.
It was at this moment that Jenna stood up and advocated for the patient, ensuring her wishes were carried out. When it was time to transfer departments, Jenna stayed by the patient's side during transport and in the labor and delivery unit until her husband arrived. Not only did she provide emotional support throughout this entire time, but she also went above and beyond by helping make sure their other children were looked after when they arrived with her husband. Not only did she go above and beyond with her skilled and knowledgeable OB care, but she also always made sure that the patient felt seen, heard, and never felt alone in the situation. Jenna is exactly the kind of nurse I think of when I think of the DAISY Award.
