On May 5, 2015, a real heartwarming event took place. A gentleman was very ill and his time was winding down; he was recently put on a morphine drip. The Nurse caring for him knew he was approaching the end of his life and she did not want him to die alone. Jenna Tuturice was the nurse assigned to his care and she could not let him leave this world without someone by his side. During his stay on the unit, Jenna had formed a lovely relationship with him the night before and was glad she had the opportunity to say goodbye. Jenna took the time to create a therapeutic environment to help him rest comfortably and relax. She played some soft music, specifically Frank Sinatra, to help him along his journey. Having spent so much time with him the night before she knew he would love it.
Jenna made sure any extra time she had that evening was spent with him, comforting him as he was dying. As he took his last breath, Jenna was holding his hand, fulfilling both his and her wish, that he would not die alone. It was in those last moments that she realized she was the last person he saw before he passed and she was thankful she was able to be there for him. Her compassion was inspiring and it touched the patient and her fellow staff members. It was something that helps you to remember what it means to be a nurse and why we do what we do.
