Jenna was on our unit and was only supposed to work an eight hour shift. When she found out there was no help coming at 3 pm she offered without hesitation to stay until 7 pm. When her relief nurse came in a 7 pm, Jenna noticed that the nurse was not well and could not keep her thoughts straight. Jenna reported the situation to the nurse supervisor and to me. When I went in to check on the oncoming nurse, I could see that she was so unwell she could not get into the computer and did not have all the due medications for the patient but had already given some without scanning. The family could see that the nurse was not well, and was appreciative of the fact that Jenna had alerted people to the situation and no harm was done. The nurse was sent to the ED for help without passing any more medications.

The family has since twice asked to be sure that Jenna is acknowledged for speaking up when she saw there was a problem. "Someone needs to know what a good nurse she is, and that she got the ball rolling to keep everyone safe."

So, not only did Jenna save the day, she was supposed to leave at 3 pm now didn't leave until 9 pm because she also helped pass meds for the nurse we had now lost.

This is only one recent example of what a great nurse Jenna is. I personally think she should be the face of "I am Good Sam" because she is such an excellent example of the kind of nurse I am proud to work with. She never complains even when she has a difficult assignment. She always is caring for her patients and you never see her just sitting around, she finds something to do for them all day long. She offers to help others. She always has a smile on her face and such a welcoming attitude that her patients can't resist liking her.
