Jenni Rich, ICU nurse, did something so wonderful today. Jenni's patient is very sick and the husband is obviously going through difficult times. She noticed that his clothing was tattered and torn and it looked as if he couldn't afford a good winter jacket during these very cold days with temperatures in the low 20s. She took the initiative to purchase a very warm winter coat for the husband. When she presented it to him, he starting crying and said "no one has ever done anything like this for me except my wife who is lying in the bed".

This is just one example of how Jenni takes every opportunity to go above and beyond her standard nursing job. She realizes that being a nurse is more than providing care to the patient and recognizes her obligation to mankind to make everyone's life a little sweeter. She is always giving a little piece of herself to her patients and families. Jenni realizes that being a nurse is more than giving meds, drawing blood or bathing a patient; a nurse's job is caring and having the desire to make a difference is someone's life.

Baptist Desoto is very lucky to have a nurse like Jenni and the ICU feels even more fortunate to have her with us, she's a friend and part of the family.
