She provided us with a “pocket hug” and encouraged us to let her know if we needed anything.
Jenni demonstrated kindness and compassion when my husband and I made the difficult transition from treating his lymphoma to ‘comfort care’. At the time of our decision, A was on C4 but the charge nurse from C5 said A was welcome to move to C5 so that he would be surrounded by the nurses that had taken great care of him since January. Jenni personally came down to C4 to transport A to C5, and when we arrived, the board on the wall said “Welcome back”. In addition, Jenni called in a dinner tray for me and the palliative care team had a snack tray for us. Jenni walked A and me through what was about to take place. She provided us with a “pocket hug” and encouraged us to let her know if we needed anything. She alerted other C5 staff that A was there, and one by one they came in to say “hello”. It brought many smiles to A’s face. After A’s passing the following morning, Jenni had another snack tray with coffee and tea sent up so that family members who had gathered could get nourishment as they said their goodbyes and reminisced about good times. Jenni provided me with multiple hugs and kind words about A and the support I provided to him.
