I was a patient on thecardiac care floor. After the first week of being there, I was experiencing tremendous angst and fear over the prospect of open heart surgery. During this time, I noticed all the nurses exemplified professionalism that was a comfort to me as a patient. There is one nurse who I feel should be recognized for her nursing talent, compassion, and caring. Jennie Mathen spent time with me and helped allay my fears with explanations of the upcoming procedures. She always had a kind word and a smile on her face. I never felt like she needed to be anywhere but there taking care of me and my health needs. She exemplifies that quality that she really cares about the patient, their health and well-being.
