Jennie is an exceptional clinician. Not only is she a competent provider, she is also one of the most compassionate caregivers I have had the pleasure of working with.
Just a few days before Christmas, we had a patient who was nearing the end of a long battle with cancer. The family had many issues they were facing, but Jennie remained calm and supportive. The patient's husband's birthday was the Friday before Christmas. Jennie and the Harbor Hospice nurse knew that the patient's husband was focused solely on his wife and on his family's issues. On Thursday, Jennie and the hospice nurse planned a small celebration for the husband's birthday. The hospice nurse was able to bring in a cake, on her day off, from Ryke's bakery, and Jennie helped to present the cake to him and let him know the cake was to celebrate him and his loving devotion to his wife. The husband was obviously overwhelmed with gratitude. Jennie was able to make sure his wife had a small taste of the icing on the cake to celebrate this sweetness.
Later that afternoon, the patient passed away peacefully. Jennie's support to this family during such a difficult time for them was greatly appreciated and had a tremendously positive impact on this family.
